The Monkey Store

Rustic Cottage is known among locals as The Monkey Store. Well, that’s because we have a monkey in the store! Yes- you read correctly. Trixie the Spider Monkey is often the talk of the town. She is extremely loving and loyal to her family and loves people watching with her mom in the shop. Although The Monkey Store appreciates visitors, we do keep Trixie in her cage at all times. In 2009 Trixie was adopted in Austin, TX by her http://lyndenrusticcottage.com family. Just like any household pet, she loves attention, playing and eating. Spider Monkeys typically eat fruits and nuts in the wild therefore that is what she is typically given. Additionally, in the wild spider monkeys live an average of 25 years. However, luckily for Trixie, the average lifespan of a pet monkey is doubled with an average of living up to 40 years!

At home she sleeps in her own room with lots of ropes to swing on and toys to play with. One of her favorite things to do is swing among the trees in her backyard at home. Spider monkeys are very loyal, so she always comes back when she’s done swinging around.

Similar to any other household pet, Trixie doesn’t have the flexibility to use the toilet like humans do. This is why she wears a diaper, to keep her from doing the deed anywhere she pleases. Additionally, while Trixie is allowed to let her “hair down” so to speak at home, in The Monkey store you will find her in a cute outfit. Therefore, you never have to worry about her throwing her pooh! Although, this is a misconception that many people have about Spider Monkeys. Even at home, she keeps her pooh in her diaper.
